I got to doing some adjustments on the engine today. Mostly to tune it better with the HHO generator active and slipping some HHO into the A/F. What I figured out was a little weird.

Apparently my engine runs better with an idle timing of 17* BTDC.

The stock timing for this 85 Dodge Ramcharger's 318 is 12* BTDC.

It's generally accepted throughout the HHO community that the timing with
HHO added should be advanced, sometimes as much as  12* ATDC (yes, 12 degrees advanced)

So what's the deal with this 318 anyway?
Why does it not conform to the norm?

Here's my best guess.
My Chrysler 318 (or 5.2) has 136,000 miles on it. From the best of my knowledge, this truck was used as a tow vehicle, then left to sit for long periods of time. There are indicators of both throughout the truck.
I do know from compression tests, and the fact that this 318 burns a little oil, that the piston rings are getting worn out.

So my best guess as to why this engine runs better with a retarded timing that is 5 degrees more retarded than stock, is that somehow the added compression of the fuel burning a touch to soon (normally) is getting the cylinder compression to a better, higher level, aiding in a better burn of the fuel. Plus the fuel having that extra few milliseconds to burn might be helping to.

To my surprise, this timing issue is also acting the same way with the addition of HHO gas.

The new site logo being tested...

Yea, stickers are the easy way to do this, but since when have I ever done things the easy way stupid
It took me about an hour to cut the logo through the full size stencil I printed. Man, that was a pain in the ass.
I'll be sprayed red with this Krylon indoor/outdoor paint I have that works on glass.

I'll post a finished pic in the next few days after I pull the tape.

Your gonna hate me! If thats CLEAR glass, do it on the INSIDE. Looks good from outside that way. Have to wait to see how it looks from the outside.

I learned a few tricks when I did almost the exact same thing with the sites old URL (WhereTheTrailEnds.com).

To successfully use and remove a painters tape stencil on glass ...

First off, wait 24 hours before even thinking of removing the painters tape stencil.

Secondly, DO NOT peal the tape without first going over each edge of every letter with a razor blade to separate the paint from the tape. Otherwise, when you pull the tape, the lettering will come off with it making your end result look like $#!+.

Third, after successfully pealing the tape, let that glass bake in the sun for a few days before using anything on it to remove the hand and fingerprints left behind from all that work you did cutting and recutting the stencil.

Your end result, if done right, will be paint lettering (or a logo) that is hard as a rock, stuck to the glass.
I'll post the finished pic after I get out of the shower ...

Here's a few pics of the finished logo on the rear glass on different angles.

Your gonna hate me! If thats CLEAR glass, do it on the INSIDE.

For clear glass, I totally agree with you. Painting the logo in the inside makes a VERY finished professional look.
But notice in the later pics, that with the mirrored glass, while in the shade, you can see the warning sticker on the inside of the glass, but if I take that same pic in the sun, the sticker is not able to be seen.
Thats why I did the logo on the outside.

DAMN that looks good!!! I figured the glass had the tint to it, never thought of it as mirrored tho. A LONG time back I did the inside of my rear/side windows on my pinto with black spray paint, looked like rap on the inside, but looked nice from outside.

My rear side windows are painted over.
Since I store tools and such on the inside from time to time, I had to do something to keep my shit outta sight.

I finally found a set of headers for the RC at the boneyard. I have pics around here somewhere I need to post up.

On the same truck that had the headers, I found a brand spanking new geared down starter. That is now installed on the RC, and makes starting it sooo much easier. I have pics of the new and old starter next to each-other for comparison, I'll post those up too the next time I have a chance.

Not yet. I've been over-busy working 16 hours a day for the last 15 days coding up the new features for the site from scratch. Plus selling stuff on ebay to get by.

It's been a while since I've done any new fabwork on the RC, but I noticed that I haven't updated this build topic since the new front bumper creation.

As stated above, somewhere, I had plans to build a slide bumper out of those Emigo rollbars I had. After a few mock-ups, I decided to add a tire holder to the bumper set-up, and this is how it turned out...

It's built to hold up to a 38"x13" tire.

Did you do the fish oil?

No, not yet. I'm still looking for fish oil in liquid form. All I can find is these stupid gel-tabs for a ton of money, since it's food grade. I might just buy a few oily fish and rub them on the headers Tongue

For now, those headers still sit in the back of the RC, waiting for me to get around to fabing up the back end of the exhaust pipes. I still need a Y pipe and a bit more tubing. Fortunately, I'm in welding class, so when I get the rest of the parts, I'll be able to weld them together and do up the exhaust the right way.

Any concern about blocked air flow to the radiator with the tire in front?

No, with the cut wells, the A/C coil gone, the lift, and the hood vents, there is a lot of extra air flow. But on a normal RC without ALL of those extras, I would be very concerned about an overheat.

She normally runs really cool, even in summer. Plus I've run with that big ass wreath blocking air flow for the past few years.

So we'll see think
