this don't look right

there is a outer u-bolt as typical of every other front end i've seen but instead of a inner one, there is a bolt and threaded rod that screw into the front end itself. of course, the back one is missing and the one that's in there is bent  no clue, come to think of it the u-bolt is bent also. what a stupid set up. anyone have a better set up idea that i can steal?

Dana 44 I'm guessing?
Passenger side?

Mine is the same way stock. There is a U-bolt on the outer side and studs going into the differential housing on the inner side.

I have no good suggestion to fix that, since the spring goes over the differential.

If ya look close enough, you'll notice that the plate has been cut for some un-freakin-known reason. The front, inside, bolt that goes into the differential {the bent one!} is clearly visable. There is only half a hole  Shocked in the plate. wtf???

Cut, or snapped off?
Can you see any tooth marks on that plate indicating it was indeed cut?

I notice the U-bolts are way long.
That looks re-done. Mine are still stock and they're much shorter.
